The Nest Cam security camera is a wire-free and weather-resistant device, allowing it to be placed almost anywhere, both indoors and outdoors. With intelligent alerts, users can stay informed about important events at home and take action directly through the Google Home app.[1] The wireless design makes it easy to install, as no outlet is required. Users can view live HD video, replay recordings, and communicate with visitors, all from the Google Home app. However, this home security camera requires a free Google Account and is not compatible with the Nest app.

Some features, including mobile notifications, remote control, video streaming, and video recording, necessitate a working internet and Wi-Fi connection.[2] Up to 3 hours of video recording is available, and Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions can be purchased separately for extended video history.[3],[4]

The Nest Cam is equipped with built-in intelligence, enabling it to differentiate between people, animals, and vehicles, and send alerts directly through the Google Home app, without the need for a subscription.[1] It is compatible with the Google Assistant, and users can stream live video hands-free on compatible smart displays, smart TVs, and tablets with Amazon Alexa.

If the Wi-Fi or power goes down, the Nest Cam can store up to an hour of recorded events, ensuring users can view what they missed.[4] The Nest Cam Outdoor model comes with a wall plate that can be mounted on brick walls. The camera can be placed anywhere, as it is battery-powered, and the magnetic mount makes installation effortless.

For continuous power and 24/7 video recording with Nest Aware Plus, users can add a weatherproof power cable or an indoor stand with a power cable, both sold separately. The Nest Cam requires the Google Home app and a free Google Account, and is not compatible with the Nest app or the Nest site.

Users can set up Activity Zones to receive phone notifications about specific areas of their home and be alerted when familiar faces arrive.[1],[5] In an emergency, users can take immediate action by talking and listening through the camera's built-in speaker and microphone, or by calling their local emergency service directly from the Google Home app (Nest Aware subscription required).[6]

The Nest Cam features 6 high-power 850 nm infrared LEDs, providing up to 6.10 m (20 ft) of illumination for night vision.
